Leslie-Writes: Early Surprises

Leslie-Writes: Early Surprises: "Winter came early! I was so not ready for it to arrive in early November. I know. I live in Minnesota, what do you expect? But, in the 5..."

  1. Ok, so it got a little worse this weekend.

During another snowstorm, our garage was entered and our cars rifled through. Fortunately for us, everything was unlocked so there was no damage to anything. We don't keep much in our cars so we didn't lose anything other than a $60 iPhone accessory. And, it happened early enough in the evening that we discovered the theft before going to bed. Had we not, we would have woken up to probably two dead car batteries and snow piled inside the garage door entry since all three doors were left open by the thief.

It could definitely have been worse.

What strikes me most about this is how bold and brazen an act it was. The thief walked across our front yard, in a snowstorm, past the lighted room we were in, tried to peek in two of our garage windows and then entered the garage near the lighted front stoop sometime between 8:30 and 10:30 pm! BOLD!

During this time, while watching a movie, I asked my husband twice if he "heard that". And wondered why the dog suddenly got up and went to the door at one point. And why I was feeling edgy and anxious for some of that time.

In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't try to find out what was bothering me. I'd much rather NOT confront a burglar if I can help it. But it drove home for me, once again, that I am strongly connected to my intuition and instincts and I need to remember that. Rarely have they steered me wrong.

It's been a couple of days now and I feel more relieved than nervous. After speaking with many people on our block, we found out that although no one else was hit that night, two houses were hit this fall. One each in September and October. Unfortunately, they never bothered to tell any of the rest of us what had happened. But at least I know we were not targeted for any specific reason, other than we seemed to be next in line, if the thief was being careful to hit every few houses and not every house.

It's kind of scary how devious and intelligent some thieves are.
